Christians warn of ‘int’l movement’ if church not given back

By Tahir Rashid

RAWALPINDI: All Pakistan Christian Action Committee (APCAC) took out a protest rally in collaboration with Pakistan Masihi League against ‘illegal occupation’ of a church adjacent to Gordon College by ‘some influential persons’.

The protestors marched from Gordon College chapel to Rawalpindi Press Club and also blocked the Murree Road for a while. They were chanting slogans against the Punjab government and local administration for not taking action against the ‘land grabbers’. They were holding placards, banners and posters depicting catchphrases for repossessing the church.

The rally turned into public meeting at the press club. APCAC chairperson Nina Robinson, veteran Christian leader Prof Salamat Akhtar, All Pakistan Christian Society Chairman Pastor Samson Bhatti, Pakistan Masihi League Vice President Akram Gill and the custodian of church Robinson Asghar spoke on the occasion.

They appealed to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take suo moto notice of the issue. They alleged that police supported the accused as some Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) parliamentarians were backing them.
