NACTA chairman Tariq Pervez resigns

LAHORE: National Counter-terrorism Authority (NACTA) Chairman Tariq Pervez has resigned from office, a private TV channel reported on Tuesday. According to sources, Pervez’s resignation was sent to the Establishment Division and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani is likely to announce a new coordinator for NACTA. The head of the federal group, meant to coordinate the country’s fight against terrorism, has tendered his resignation from his post amid a bureaucratic turf battle. A senior official of the authority, Asif Syed, confirmed the report, the channel added. According to the channel, a government official said Pervez had resigned as he could not persuade his seniors to place the organisation under the Prime Minister’s Office, where it would have more power to oblige intelligence and security services to cooperate. daily times monitor
