Tourism minister ‘passionate’ about national language

By Tahir Niaz

ISLAMABAD: Officials of the Tourism Ministry are busy with a new assignment – adopting Urdu as the official language, as the incumbent minister is reportedly “passionate” about the national language.

Tourism Minister Attaur Rehman has directed officials of the ministry to carry out file work in Urdu instead of English.

Several officials of the ministry claimed that the minister could not “comprehend English properly” and that was the reason for his direction for the change of language.

“Throughout my career, I have used English as the medium for official communication and now the staff has been asked to use Urdu,” a senior ministry official said on condition of anonymity.
