Supposed husband of Meera’s mother denied bail

LAHORE: The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the bail petition of Rana Akram, who claimed to be the husband of Shafqat Zohra Bokhari, mother of film actress Meera.The court, while rejecting the application, observed that the petitioner could not be released on bail at a stage when the trail had already commenced. Akram, who is in jail, stated that his wife Zohra implicated him in fake case, alleging that she had given Rs 10 million to him to make arrangements for her settlement in the United Kingdom. She also alleged that Rana Akram did not fulfill his commitment and also not returned the money. In his petition, Akram had attached the copy of his nikah nama (marriage certificate) with Zohra.

Sessions judge to investigate lawyers’ assault on journalists: The Lahore High Court (LHC) registrar on Thursday directed the Lahore district and sessions judge to investigate the manhandling of a media crew by a group of lawyers and file a report. The registrar issued the directions after meeting with Muhammad Ashfaq (reporter) and Irfan Arshad (cameraman) of a private TV channel who were allegedly assaulted in the sessions court premises. The judge has summoned the office bearer of the Lahore Bar Association and the media men for December 2 to investigate the matter in details. Meanwhile, Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafferry has also filed an application before the LHC, requesting it to take stern action against those lawyers who beat the media men. staff report
