Traffic jams at Pirwadhai irk passengers

RAWALPINDI: Commuters have expressed dismay over the traffic congestion at the Pirwadhai Bus Station ahead of Eidul Azha, attributing it to the inefficiency of the traffic police. Talking to APP, they complained that as the religious occasion neared, a chaos was created at the station as people throng it in large numbers to reach their destinations on time. “Animal sellers also surface on the footpaths of the IJ Principal road, which multiples worries of the passengers,” they noted. “I have been sitting in a coach for the last one and a half hour but it is moving at snail’s pace due to traffic jam,” Asghar, who was heading to Multan to celebrate Eid, commented. Construction material littered at different points of the road serves as an encroachment and create hurdles in the smooth flow of traffic, said Akhtar, who commutes daily on the road. Meanwhile, passengers leaving for their hometowns are perturbed over the skyrocketing transport fares, as Eid ulAzha is just a day away. Most of them are also disturbed by the dearth of means of transport. The situation often results in exchange of hot words between the transporters and commuters, as the latter are not ready to make a compromise with the transporters’ tactic to mint money. Passengers allege that transporters cram passengers into vehicles. “They also accommodate them on rooftops of their vehicles. agencies
