‘Govt committed to providing quality education’
Staff Report
RAWALPINDI: Advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar on Wednesday said that the government was committed to ensuring provision of quality education throughout the province.
He also said the government had allocated billions of rupees for improving educational facilities and also promote merit culture in this respect.
Sarwar said this during the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-recruited 2,485 educators in the district at Anjuman-e-Faizul Islam.
The chief minister’s advisor said the previous provincial government used billions of rupees for its publicity but failed to a single penny for education sector’s improvement.
“Had the previous government taken some practical steps, then the education targets would have been achieved,” he said.
He said despite having abundant resources, the country lagged far behind in education sector with literacy rate being miserably low. “The reason for this sorry state of affairs is appointment of teachers in educational institutions on a political basis,” he said.
