Indian PM’s visit won’t affect ties with Pakistan: US
WASHINGTON: The Indian prime minister’s visit to Washington does not mean that Pakistan is any less important for the US, US special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke said on Monday.
He said Washington was seeking to improve relations with Pakistan, India and China. “We want that every country gains from this relationship,” he added.
He said the US was delighted to have Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his first-ever visit to America under the Obama administration.
However, he said, “This visit should not be read in Pakistan as a diminution of the importance we attach to it.” Holbrooke cited US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s visit to Pakistan last month, saying the US and Pakistan would forge a deeper and genuine partnership as sovereign countries. app
