PPP leaders ready to face cases

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Secretary General Jehangir Badr on Saturday said PPP leaders were ready to face cases against them in court as they had done in the past. Commenting on the list of NRO beneficiaries, Badr said around 8,000 people, including President Asif Ali Zardari, had benefited from NRO. He said there was a need to ensure social and economic justice in the country and there should no character assassination. app

MQM vows to face criminal cases in courts

ISLAMABAD: PML-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain on Saturday welcomed the government’s initiative of making the NRO beneficiaries' list public, which he said was a longstanding demand of his party. LAHORE: Former Supreme Court judge Wajihuddin Ahmed on Saturday said the judiciary was more independent than it was in the past, saying it would bode well for the country and the democracy. He said the judiciary could examine whether he National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) was against constitutional equality and fundamental rights of the people, adding that proper action must be taken against the culprits. staff report
