Four MQM workers killed
KARACHI: Four workers of a political party were gunned down and three other activists of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) were wounded in separate incidents of target killings in Lyari Town on Saturday.
As per details, unidentified armed culprits opened indiscriminate firing on two Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) workers Shahnawaz alias Shani and Fareed Ahmed at Kagzi Bazaar within limits of Kharadar police station. As a result, they received multiple bullet injuries and were taken to a hospital where Shani succumbed to his injures and Fareed was admitted with critical injures.
Similarly, unknown assailants gunned down another MQM worker identified as Ali Asghar, 45, within the jurisdiction of Chakiwara police station. Following the target killings of political workers, police officials suspected that this was a result of an old resentment. No FIR was registered until the filing of this report.
In another incident, more than a dozen attackers barged into the house of MQM activist Rehan Ameen located in the limits of Baghdadi police station to abduct him, but instead abducted his younger brother Faizan Ameen, who is also affiliated with MQM, when they did not find Rehan at home.
Police officials said that the culprits shot Faizan and dumped his dead body in the limits of Baghdadi police station.
Summing up the details of Faizan being kidnapped and then killed, reports revealed that the first incident took place in Kalri police limits in which three workers of PPP sustained bullets injures when armed men opened indiscriminate firing at the office of Lyari Peace Committee. The wounded activists were rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi. Police registered an FIR against the activists of MQM including Babar, and Waqas on the complaint of the injured, Mohammad Hussain.
In a separate incident, unidentified motorcyclists shot dead another worker of the MQM, who was identified as Mohammad Khalil, 40, when he was sitting near his home located at Katchi Gali, Usmanabad within the limits of Kalakot police station, said SHO Haji Sanaullah and added that the deceased was also an employee of the KMC department.
