SHC moved to recover money from NRO beneficiaries

Staff Report

KARACHI: The national wealth/public money plundered by politicians and bureaucrats, which was written off under the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), must be recovered and deposited into the national coffers, said a constitution petition filed before the Sindh High Court on Saturday.

Syed Iqbal Kazmi, representative of Human Rights Commission, South Asia, an international human rights activist making the secretary law, chairman NAB and others maintained that thousands of cases were withdrawn under the said black law that legalised looting and plundering of public money.

The national coffers sustained a loss worth of billions of rupees as cases against politicians and bureaucrats were withdrawn, said Kazmi and added that if this money is recovered, it would end the price hike and the country would not need any more loans from the World Bank or any other international donor agency.

The petitioner maintained that the NRO violated Articles 5 and 25 of the Constitution of Pakistan and if cases of some persons could be withdrawn, then such facility would be extended to every Pakistani.

He prayed to the court to direct the respondents to reopen cases withdrawn under the NRO, recover public money and deposit it in the national coffers.
