Fishermen hold boat rally

KARACHI: Hundreds of fishermen on Friday held a boat rally on the Karachi coast in connection with the World Fisheries Day, which will be celebrated today (Saturday). Every year, the local fishermen start celebrations a week before the World Fisheries Day.

The boat rally started from the Karachi Fish Harbour to finish at Baba Bhit Island in the Arabian Sea. The fishermen had decorated their boats with colourful buntings, flags and banners. A few boats were also decorated with stages for different activities and the fishermen performed cultural tableaus and sang traditional songs. Thousands of fishermen living along the coast are celebrating a week-long festivity in Baba Bhit, Shams Pir, Salah Abad, Kakapir village, Shireen Jinnah Colony, Hawkesbay, Mubarak Village, Ibrahim Haidery, Rehri and other fishing villages. staff report
