Govt and AQ Khan should settle issues out of court by 23rd: LHC
RAWALPINDI: A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi registry on Thursday observed that it was in the national interest to reach an out-of-court settlement between the government and nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, ensuring both free movement and security for the nuclear scientist, but the court would make a decision if there was no mutual agreement by November 23. The two-member bench consisting of Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh and Justice Khawaja Imtiaz Ahmed said this while hearing an intra-court appeal by the federal government on restoring security protocol for Dr Khan. The nuclear scientist had challenged his official protocol, terming it a violation of his fundamental rights. Barrister Syed Ali Zafar, the counsel for Dr Khan, argued that his client was being illegally detained. A confidential affidavit submitted by Dr Khan was read out in court, confirming that he had not given any interviews or made any statements to the foreign media. aamir yasin
