PHF names officials for clubs scrutiny, district associations’ elections

LAHORE: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) on Thursday named the officials for clubs scrutiny and district hockey associations’ elections. The officials were announced by PHF president Qasim Zia and general secretary Muhammad Asif Bajwa at a press conference here at the National Hockey Stadium. Punjab sports secretary Rao Iftikhar has been deputed as the chief election commissioner while MPA Chaudhry Muhammad Akhlaq will be the chairman scrutiny committee Punjab and Ejaz Gul will be the deputy chairman. Olympian Iftikhar Syed will be the chairman scrutiny committee Sindh, Olympian Muhammad Akhlaq will be the chairman scrutiny committee NWFP, Olympian Musadaq Hussain will be the chairman scrutiny committee Balochistan, Olympian Khalid Bashir will be the chairman scrutiny committee Islamabad and Olympian Rahim Khan will be the chairman scrutiny committee Gilgit & Baltistan. The chairmen of the respective committees will select the members of their committees for scrutiny of clubs and elections. The scrutiny and elections process will held from November 21 to December 4. Provincial associations’ elections will be held on November 5 and the elections of the PHF will be held in the first week of January 2010. Qasim Zia said that scrutiny of clubs and elections of districts, provinces and the national hockey federation would be held in a transparent and trend-setting manner. “We believe in giving everyone equal right to compete in the elections provided they fulfill the laid down criteria and these elections will prove that the PHF firmly believes in transparency and fair play,” he said.
