Misconceptions about Punjab removed: Baloch high-achievers

* Position-holders visit Lahore’s educational institutions
* Request govt to announce special scholarships
* Facilities in Punjab incomparable with those in Balochistan

Staff Report

LAHORE: Top position-holders in the matriculation and intermediate examinations of 2009 from Balochistan, who are visiting Lahore on an invitation from the Punjab government, said their perspective of the province has changed after their visit.

The students demanded the Punjab government increase number of seats in educational institutions instead of allocating quota system for Baloch students. They said special scholarships should be announced for Baloch students.

A delegation of 20 students on Thursday visited various educational institutions of the city and discussed their problems regarding the education system. The students visited the Government College University, Lahore College For Women University and the Punjab University, besides various historical monuments.

Muhammad Ammar, an FSc student, appreciated the Punjab government, saying it had done a lot for its people. He said the delegation had received a great response from Lahore and their misconceptions about the province had changed.

Scholarships: Sehrish Zahoor, the topper in Arts in matriculation, said she was surprised to see that there were private and public universities at every corner of Lahore, while there were only two universities in Balochistan. She requested the government to announce scholarships for Baloch students.

Rabia, an FSc student, said there was a huge difference between educational institutions of Balochistan and Lahore, as the institutions here were provided with modern facilities. She said it was a fact that the Balochistan government had not followed Punjab with regards to educational facilities.

Facilities: Maheen, who secured the second position in FSc, said the facilities provided in Balochistan could not be compared to those in Punjab. She said the students’ misconceptions regarding Punjabi people had changed after their visit to the city.
