Lawyers boycott courts after Peshawar tragedy
KARACHI: Lawyers in Karachi boycotted court proceedings on Thursday afternoon as soon as the electronic media disclosed news of a blast at the Peshawar judicial complex.
Two lawyers were reported to have fallen victim to the blast, as an aged suicide bomber blew up himself upon being intercepted by a policeman deputed at the entrance gate of the complex. The blast claimed lives of 17 innocent citizens.
The lawyers who later gathered at the Karachi Bar Association expressed solidarity with the families of the deceased lawyers and condoled with them, demanding the government to pay compensation to the heirs of the deceased. They also expressed concern over security arrangements at the Karachi judicial complex and said it needed improvement.
Meanwhile, the security at the Sindh High Court was beefed up after the Peshawar blast. staff report
