Multan DPO, FIA official summoned in lawyers’ manhandling case
LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Wednesday issued summons to the Multan district police officer (DPO) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) deputy director for November 20 on the alleged manhandling and detention of lawyers by FIA Multan officials. The LHC CJ took suo motu notice of the incident and told the officials concerned to appear in court tomorrow (Friday) with the complete record and progress of the case. The CJ said he would like to know the actual facts of the matter and the action, if any, taken by the executive authorities. Four lawyers – Mian Sajjad Ahmad Jangla, Qamar Khalid Alvi, Ali Raza and Adnan Pervez Butt – went to the FIA office to get some information and resisted when the security personnel tried to frisk them. The FIA staff allegedly beat the lawyers and detained Jangal in the office, who was later released. staff report
