Prices of sacrificial animals skyrocket

ISLAMABAD: Eidul Azha is around the corner and sacrificial animals have started arriving in Islamabad and Rawalpindi but people are taking little interest in buying due to high prices. People said prices of sacrificial animals were out of reach of common men. Capital Development Authority (CDA) has notified sale points of sacrificial animals in the city. An animal trader said prices of animals had almost doubled compared to previous years due to various reasons including the increase in prices of feed, transportation charges etc. An official of the CDA told APP that the authorities concerned had asked the administration to improve the management and security of sale points. He said the traders had been instructed to sell their animals on approved sale points and animal markets till Eid and in case of any violation of the rules, they would be fined. These animals mostly come form various districts of the Punjab including Attock, Tala Gang, Chakwal, Gujar Khan, Rajan Pur, Sargodha, Mianwali, Choa Saddan Shah, Okara and Mandi Bhauddin to the capital markets. TheCDA would arranged sacrificial animals markets for 10 days in different areas of including Sector 1-11 in front of Sabzi Mandi, Noorpur Shahan (Bari Imam) and Golra Sharf, said the official. A trader of animals, Ghulam Hussain, said there was a shortage of the sacrificial animals in markets and their high prices were keeping away the people from purchasing. He said price of a healthy goat would not be less than Rs 15,000, while a medium weight heifer would cost around Rs 40,000 this year. He said last year price of a goat ranged from Rs 9,000 to Rs 10,000 and a heifer was sold for Rs 20,000 to 30,000. app
