‘Let CDGK control traffic police’

KARACHI: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has demanded the Pakistan president and prime minister, and the Sindh governor and chief minister to put traffic police under the control of City District Government Karachi (CDGK) so that the city’s traffic issues could be resolved.

He expressed these views while addressing a seminar on road safety on Monday, organised by the National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP). Kamal claimed that Karachi was the only mega city in the world that does not have traffic police under the local government’s control. He said the CDGK could do traffic engineering, but it does not have the authority, adding that despite the CDGK spending billions of rupees on traffic engineering, infrastructure development, and construction of roads, flyovers and underpasses, the problems still persisted due to lack of proper traffic management. staff report
