17 Taliban killed in Waziristan, Swat

* 22 bodies of terrorists found in Swat
* Several Taliban surrender to security forces

Staff Report

MINGORA/RAWALPINDI: Security forces killed at least 39 terrorists in Swat and South Waziristan, sources and the Inter-Services Public Relations said on Sunday.

The sources said 34 terrorists were killed in various areas of Swat and elsewhere in Malakand division, while several terrorists surrendered across the region.

They told Daily Times that bodies of eight terrorists were recovered from Ellam and Karkar, on the border between Swat and Buner, while four terrorists were killed in a clash with security forces in Shamozai Ghari area.

Bodies of 14 terrorists were found in Gulibagh area of Chaharbagh tehsil, with one identified as senior Taliban commander Mukhtiar. The sources said eight other Taliban were killed separately in Chaharbagh.

A senior Taliban commander, Fazle Rabi, also surrendered in Kabal.

Meanwhile, the ISPR said troops had killed five terrorists in Operation Rah-e-Nijat in South Waziristan and established a number of checkposts after clearing several areas.

“During clearance operations, an exchange of fire took place with the terrorists. Resultantly, five terrorists were killed,” an ISPR statement said.

It said the security forces conducted a search operation around Tiarza and recovered a large cache of weapons near the Shakai-Kaniguram axis.

The troops also established a checkpost at the Razmak-Makeen axis. “The route to Laddah Bridge has been cleared. During route scanning, 4 IEDs were neutralised. Security forces also recovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition,” the ISPR said.
