South Waziristan operation may conclude ahead of schedule: PM

MULTAN: The government hopes to conclude the South Waziristan operation earlier than expected, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Sunday.

Talking to reporters at the Multan airport before leaving for the federal capital, the prime minister said the government, however, could not give a timeframe for the conclusion of the Waziristan operation.

Gilani said no operation was being conducted in Balochistan.

To a question, he said the country’s nuclear assets were in safe hands. The prime minister said the armed forces were performing their duties responsibly. Responding to another question, Gilani said Washington would take Pakistan into confidence if it planned to change its Afghan policy. The prime minister said he had asked US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during her visit to Pakistan that the US should consult Pakistan before changing its policy on Afghanistan. app
