Country to launch National Blood Transfusion Services Project
ISLAMABAD: The National Blood Transfusion Services Project is being launched in the country with Germany’s help, Federal Health Minister Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani said in a National Assemble session on Wednesday. “The project will be launched in 13 cities in its first phase,” he said, adding that Germany had committed 17 million euros for the project. The federal health minister said there were 2,628 registered patients of AIDS/HIV in the country. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Malik Ammad informed the NA that 1,152 Pakistanis had been imprisoned on various charges in Saudi Arabia. “Our embassy in Abu Dhabi, UAE has facilitated the deportation of 6,831 Pakistani nationals from January 1 to October 31, 2009,” he said. To a question by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Barjees Tahir, Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Nazar Muhammad Gondal informed the House that the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation Limited (PASSCO) was procuring paddy according to its share, adding that the provincial governments were “exhibiting sluggishness” in the procurement procedure.
