Quaid-e-Azam Trophy First Class Tournament: Multan crush Hyderabad, Karachi Blues also close to victory

Staff Report

LAHORE: Ansar Javed (4-67) and Rizwan Haider (3-49) helped Multan Region easily defeat Hyderabad Region by an innings and 5 runs on the third day of their four-day Quaid-e-Azam Trophy First Class Tournament sixth round Group B match at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

After Multan reached a massive 453 in their first innings resuming from their overnight score of 394-7, the task on hand for Hyderabad was always difficult and their batsmen struggled despite Hanifur Rehman’s half-century as Ansar alongside Rizwan put up a fine bowling display which ensured that Multan did not again and won with a day to spare.

In another Group B encounter at the National Stadium in Karachi, Asad Shafique smashed an unbeaten ton and Mohammad Sami took three wickets to put Karachi Blues on the brink of victory against Lahore Ravi. Chasing a winning target of 419, Lahore were reeling at 48-4 by the close of play courtesy captain Sami’s 3-26. Earlier, right-handed Asad, smashed 15 boundaries in his 284-ball 147 not out to power Karachi to 311 in their second innings.
