Tropical cyclone brings strong winds to city, but no rain expected
KARACHI: The strong winds in the city on Tuesday night and Wednesday are due a tropical cyclone named 04A-Phyan, which was on a latitude of 16 degrees north and longitude of 71.5 degrees east and about 350 kilometres southwest of Mumbai on Wednesday evening. “A tropical storm that emerged from the southwest of Colombo in Sri Lanka on November 4 and was expected to weaken later, has appeared as a tropical cyclone, which is expected to take its toll on Mumbai, India on late Wednesday night,” said chief meteorologist Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Muhammad Riaz. “It is moving north-northeasterly direction with a speed of 18-km per hour and is expected to landfall tonight on Wednesday night on the adjoining coastal areas of Indian Gujarat and Maharashtra states, but there are no chances at all that it would hit the Sindh coast.” Replying to a query, he ruled out chances of rainfall in the city followed by the landfall of this cyclone. “There can be scattered rainfall in some other parts of Sindh, but nothing more than that,” said Riaz. amar guriro
