Butcher slaughters stepdaughter

Staff Report

KARACHI: A middle-aged butcher, Imtiaz Khan, has fled after slaughtering his stepdaughter, Rehana Nasrullah, 21, whose wedding was scheduled for next month.

As per the Iqbal Market police, Khan slew Rehana around 4:00 am in their house in Masoomabad; however, her family discovered her body in their courtyard around 7:00 am and immediately informed the police.

Toori Bangash police post In-charge Ali Raza told Daily Times that on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Rashid, the police had registered FIR no 329/09 under Section 302 (premeditated murder) against Rehana’s stepfather who was still at large until the filing of this report.

Khan ran a butcher shop in Qasba Colony and at the time of the incident, Rehana’s mother was not at home, while her brothers were asleep.

Khan hails from Peshawar, where his first wife and children still reside, adding that Khan married the victim’s mother, who also hails from Peshawar, some 12 years ago.

Quoting Rashid’s statement, Raza said Khan usually prevented his wife from meeting her relatives; therefore, when Khan came home and found her unavailable, he killed Rehana out of anger and escaped.

Conversely, Raza suspected that as per the initial investigation, it seemed that there was a dispute between the accused and his wife over Rehana’s wedding. “We are not satisfied with the family’s statement and feel that they are trying to mislead us,” said Raza and added, “Initially, they did not inform us about the girl’s engagement and they had also told us that she was 14 years old, but according to MLO Dr Zakia, she was about 21.”

Raza also said Rehana was engaged to a man who resides in Peshawar and is a relative of her mother, adding, “I think the accused wanted to get the victim married to his own relatives. Therefore, he killed the victim to end the dispute.”

PQR personnel gunned down: A personnel of the Pakistan Qaumi Razakar was gunned down in the wee hours of Wednesday in an incident of target killing when he was sitting outside his house in Zia Colony. As per the Korangi police, the victim’s two assailants, who were on a motorcycle, asked the victim’s name before shooting him twice. There were some unconfirmed reports that the victim was the brother-in-law of MQM worker Naeem Chitta.

Citizens kill dacoit: The firing by the residents of Sohrab Goth area killed an alleged dacoit early on Wednesday in Ganjal Goth. As per the Sohrab Goth police, some four to five armed men held Enayat hostage and broke into his house when he returned home after working at a private bank as a security guard. Upon hearing the screams of the victim, the area residents gathered around cordoned-off Enayat’s house and when the culprits tried to flee, the area residents opened fire on them, killing one of the dacoits, Shakeel Mast Ali.

Body found: The body of a 28-year-old man was found from the bushes in the factory area of the Korangi Industrial Area. As per the police, the victim had been shot twice.
