Grenade found, defused at govt college
LAHORE: A live grenade was found on the premises of government boys college near the National Hockey Stadium, spreading fear among the students on Tuesday. An unidentified caller called in the threat to 15, who in turn informed the Gulberg police and the bomb disposal squad (BDS). The college administration advised the students to leave the college premises immediately. The BDS held a search operation for more than half an hour and found a hand grenade with a detonator. Jahanzeb, a member of the BDS, told Daily Times that they found the grenade in one of the grounds wrapped in a black shopping bag. He said they defused it and handed it over to Gulberg police. Jahanzeb said the areas around Gaddafi Stadium and National Hockey Stadium were searched, and later cleared. He added that before the call about a bomb at the government college, they had received another call informing them of the presence of three bombs at the nearby Salamat School. Jahanzeb said they reached the spot and searched the school premises, but did not find any explosives. The school administration sent all students home and closed down the school as a safety measure. staff report
