Transfer of Japanese technology to enhance crop productivity

ISLAMABAD: Zarai Taraqiati Bank Ltd (ZTBL) would collaborate with Japanese firm M/S Finetech for the transfer of Japanese technology for improvement of soil quality and enhancement of crop productivity.

They would bring investment in Pakistan for the development of agriculture sector. An agreement has already been signed with M/S Finetech, said in a press release issued here today.

The Japanese delegation led by Naoza Sato along with technical and scientific experts held a meeting in ZTBL Headquarters with the high officials of the Bank. President ZTBL, Ch. Muhammad Zaka Ashraf led the ZTBL side.

In the meeting, it was decided to develop technology centers in Model villages selected all over the country. An introduction of Japanese technology will be displayed by demonstrating soil improvement and enhanced crop productivity.

The effective microorganism used in the demonstration farms would be compatible with Pakistan’s soil, said technical and scientific expert from Japan Hisahide Saito.

The Japanese delegation apprised the Bank’s officials that the transfer of Japanese technology to Pakistani agriculture would be carried out in three phases causing big change in agriculture sector due to better soil quality and production at farm produce.

They would also impart training to the farmers for the successful application of soil technology to Pakistani farms by giving practical demonstration. For this purpose, ZTBL farm at Islamabad has been selected.

Japanese delegation told their past experience of applying their technology in Korea where even after cutting of rose flowers after 45 days, the colour remained intact. ZTBL President asked the delegates to initiate the application of this technology with flowers & indoor plants to make these products exportable and to earn much needed foreign exchange for the country.

M/S Finetech would also launch awareness campaigns and demonstrate new technology to the farmers at their own cost, and ZTBL will provide credit facilities to the farmers for purchase of the product.

In the meeting the Bank’s Chief, Zaka Ashraf said the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari was very keen to develop Pakistan’s agriculture and the with the help of the initiative taken by the Bank the country could counter food challenges by increasing soil fertility and enhancing crop productivity.

He also said that with the application of Japanese technology, the farmers’ income would be increased significantly as the production per acre yield will be doubled to revive the country’s economy through agricultural growth.

The President ZTBL, Zaka Ashraf presented souvenirs and bouquet to the visiting delegate, which comprised of Naoza Sato, Masao Tamanuki, Hisahide Saito and Hitoshi Tsushima.
