Punjab govt impeding PTI campaign: Imran
* Accuses Nawaz Sharif of having a ‘dual policy’
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has accused the Punjab administration of removing posters for a mass contact campaign by his party.
The PTI chief was addressing a public meeting at Allama Iqbal Town after launching his party’s countrywide public contact campaign from Lahore on Sunday. PTI Vice Chairman Hamid Khan, Punjab President Ahsan Rasheed, Saloni Bukhari and other leaders also addressed the gathering.
Imran said the provincial administration had damaged the hoarding boards and removed posters, banners and flags of his party from different areas. He claimed Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was “directly responsible for all these acts”.
He asked the chief minister to take stern action against such undemocratic measures and warned him that his party would publicly protest against the chief minister otherwise.
Imran accused Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif of a dual policy in the name of saving democracy in the country and playing the role of a “friendly opposition like Jamiat Ullema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman” during the last government’s tenure. He advised Nawaz Sharif to “shun double standards”.
He also criticised the government for leading lives of luxury while the people did not even have access the basic amenities of life.
Imran opposed the government operation against the Taliban in the Tribal Areas and said the “fight against terrorism is not ours and the government is fighting America’s war”. He added that Musharraf had started “this war for his personal financial gains. He ran away from the country just as his imported prime minister Shaukat Aziz had earlier”. The PTI chief also criticised the Pakistan People’s Party and said President Asif Ali Zardari had adopted dictatorial policies. staff report
