JI concerned over rising street crime in Karachi
KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chapter Ameer Muhammad Hussain Mehanti on Sunday strongly condemned the deteriorating law and order situation, murders, snatchings, kidnapping for ransom and other criminal activities in the city, and alleged that corrupt police was supervising such criminal elements in the society. In a statement on Sunday, he said street crimes were on the rise despite the pronounced commitments to eradicate it. He said it had become common practice on the streets to snatch mobile phones, jewelleries and other valuables from pedestrians, adding that miscreants were looting people with impunity despite the presence of police at various points, causing the citizens to fear leaving their houses. “Open snatching and dacoities on the streets indicate that black sheep in the police are backing the anti-social elements,” he emphasised. He also said corrupt police officers, due to their support to criminal elements, were tarnishing the image of their department. ppi
