‘Positive results achieved on NFC Award’

* Sindh CM says govt withdrew NRO to avoid misunderstandings

HYDERABAD: The Sindh government has achieved positive results in respect of National Finance Commission (NFC) Award and it has been engaged in dialogue with its allied parties as it believes in democracy, people’s welfare and integrity of the country, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said.

The chief minister expressed these views while talking to the media at the wedding ceremony of Senator Maula Bux Chandio’s daughter in Qasimabad late on Saturday night.

He said the findings of the Sindh government regarding sales tax on government services has been accepted. He called it a success for the Sindh government, saying the province had always received 40 percent less than its share in the NFC Award on the basis of population.

Responding to a question, the chief minister said he rejected the notion of any “minus-one formula”. He said the supremacy of the constitution was the prime vision of Benazir Bhutto and the dialogue between the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was aimed at ensuring democracy, the welfare of the masses and the stability of the country.

Misunderstandings: Replying to a question about the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), the Sindh chief minister said the government had decided not to take the NRO to parliament to avoid misunderstandings. He added the PPP respects the judiciary and if the court summons the president or the prime minister, they will feel no hesitation in appearing before the court.

He also said the government had initiated development projects worth Rs 75 billion in the province and development schemes under the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Programme were also being implemented. app
