Violation of constitution caused problems for nation: Nawaz

LAHORE: The main reason the country is facing problems is the frequent violation of the constitution, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif said on Saturday.

According to a private TV channel, addressing a public gathering at the Challas Rest House in Gilgit, he said the entire nation had to pay the price for decisions taken by one man.

He said the country was frequently plagued by martial laws, violations of the constitution and the exploitation of the judiciary.

The PML-N chief said he was forced to stay out of the country, but he did not bow down before former president Pervez Musharraf for the sake of the nation. "I did not bow down before Musharraf. National interests remained the focal point of our 10-year long struggle,” he said.

"We are still struggling for Pakistan and will not compromise on it,” the PML-N chief said. "We launched a struggle for the restoration of the judiciary and were successful in our endeavours by the grace of Allah. Today we are struggling for the revival of the constitution. The people of Pakistan are eagerly awaiting the complete restoration of the constitution and the democratic system,” Nawaz said. Earlier, addressing a public gathering in connection with the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan election, Nawaz said polls should be held in a fair and transparent manner. He announced to double the quota of Gilgit and Baltistan in medial colleges in Punjab, besides increasing the seats by 50 for the students of Gilgit and Baltistan in the Agriculture University. daily times monitor/online
