Multan suspends water supply from tanks amid poisoning fears
* MDA chief orders water to be pumped directly from source
MULTAN: Multan Development Authority Director General Tasaduq Hussain Bukhari on Saturday directed WASA to stop supplying water to the people from storage tanks.
“WASA should pump water directly through tube wells,” the MDA DG said while chairing a meeting after receiving information on reported threats that terrorists may attempt to poison water tanks and other sources of water in the city.
Bukhari said law enforcement personnel had relayed the information to the departments concerned and directed the WASA to stop supplying water to the people from storage tanks.
He said there were reports that members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban had obtained large quantities of poison to contaminate the city’s water supply.
According to a WASA press release, Hussain also ordered additional security at all water storage facilities in Multan and asked officials to take all possible preventive measures to avoid the threat.
“No unauthorised personnel should be allowed near the water supply,” he added. app
