Ensure sugar supply in the market: CM
* Shahbaz Sharif announces autonomous Healthcare Commission

LAHORE: The administration should ensure the provision of sugar at fixed rates and supply sugar bags in denominations of one and two kg each, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday.
Chairing a high-level meeting to review the sugar supply in the province, he said the authorities concerned should meet representatives of the Sugar Mills Association and evolve a strategy to address sugar shortage in the market. Shahbaz deplored that such an essential commodity was not available in the market. He said an effective strategy should be evolved to ensure the supply of sugar to the common man at the fixed price. He urged sugar mill owners to cooperate with the government in this regard. He said he wanted abundant supply of sugar in markets. He warned authorities concerned of stern legal action if the shortage was not addressed. He ordered action against profiteers and constituted special teams. He ordered establishing a committee headed by the additional chief secretary to negotiate with sugar mill owners.
Separately, the CM has recommended suspension of Deputy District Officer (DDO) (Revenue) Iqbal Warraich, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Muhammad Yousaf, tehsildar Khalid Siddique Kamiyana, Station House Officer (SHO) Muhammad Tariq and Sub-Inspector Muhammad Aslam under the Punjab Employees Efficiency and Disciplinary Accountability (PEEDA) Act, 2006 for their involvement in hoarding 42 metric tonnes of sugar in Okara.
Autonomous commission: Shahbaz announced setting up an autonomous Healthcare Commission in the province to provide modern facilities to the people. He said the commission would improve the performance of public and private hospitals.
