Khosa seeks Ramday’s separation from bench
ISLAMABAD: Former attorney general Sardar Latif Khosa – currently an adviser to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani – filed an application with the Supreme Court on Thursday seeking Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday’s separation from a bench set to hear a corruption case against him today (Friday). Khosa filed the application under Order XXXIII, Rule 6 of the SC for the “recusal” of Justice Ramday from the five-member bench, which would hear a complaint filed by Dr Mazhar Jamal. Khosa said in the application that on December 29, 1998, Justice Ramday – while hearing a case related to Benazir Bhutto’s political secretary as a Lahore High Court judge – made “derogatory and outright insulting remarks” against him. He said that the remarks were widely published in national dailies the next day. Khosa also attached with the application a Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) resolution – which was passed in 1998 against Justice Ramday. The resolution moved by Khosa was unanimously passed by the LHCBA. In the resolution, Khosa said that Justice Ramday had no mandate to use “unbecoming, abusive and insulting language against an advocate”. masood rehman
