Syngenta Rice Expo highlights advances for crop protection

KARACHI: Latest technological advances in the fields of crop protection and enhancement were highlighted at the two-day Syngenta Rice Expo 2009 at the Post Graduate Agricultural Research Station, University of Faisalabad. Farmers in the community have expressed their satisfaction over the fact that this event is being held close to the Basmati belt, which is the heart of rice exports for Pakistan. The most unique aspect of this expo is that it is being held at an actual rice field and the participants have been able to see the benefits of the technology first hand. Country head Syngenta Pakistan, Saqib Habi said technology plays a key role in increasing rice productivity per acre. Researchers have concluded that growers can significantly increase productivity and improve return on investment for their crop by utilizing cost effective technological solutions, he added. The Expo has highlighted solutions for weeds, diseases and insect management, crop stress and lodging. Experts and innovative growers from all over Pakistan who have been invited to this event shared their experiences and learnt about the role of technology from the experts conducting this expo. staff report
