28 Taliban, five soldiers killed in SWA operation

* Forces conduct house-to-house search, clearance operations in different areas of South Waziristan
* Five Taliban arrested


RAWALPINDI: Security forces secured Ladha Fort in South Waziristan on Thursday and consolidated their positions on peaks around another insurgent base, the military said.

An ISPR statement said 28 Taliban had been killed, taking the death toll for terrorists to 422 since the offensive began. Five soldiers including an officer were killed and two were wounded, the statement said.

“Security forces have secured Ladha Fort and the northeast area of Shashak and also cleared Bangel Khel,” the ISPR statement said.

Security forces personnel secured the Ladha Fort and consolidated their positions on the peaks in the Sararogha area where the five soldiers were killed in a blast, the military said.

The forces conducted house-to-house search and clearance operations in Spin Qamar, Wucha Kauna Algad and Lugar Manza areas. Clearance and search operations is underway in China village.

The forces also recovered a heavy cache of arms from the Razmak-Makeen axis.

The Pakistan Army is engaged in an offensive against the Taliban in South Waziristan since October 17. Separately, security forces conducted a search operation in Swat and apprehended five relatives of a local Taliban commander Ali Rehman alias Spray. Nine terrorists also surrendered to the law enforcement agencies’ personnel. staff report/agencies
