CDGR to set up five cattle markets

RAWALPINDI: The City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) on Thursday chalked out a comprehensive plan for Eidul Azha, decided to establish five cattle markets and imposed ban on sale of sacrificial animals in other parts of the city.
The plan was chalked out during a meeting held here with Rawalpindi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Imdadullah Bosal in the chair. Executive District Officer (EDO) Municipal Services Imtiaz Ahmad, Solid Waste Management District Officer Dr Mazhar Azeem Chaudhry, Rawal Town representative Muhammad Kamran, Potohar Town Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) Malik Mumtaz and other senior district officials attended the meeting.
The meeting decided to set up only five cattle markets at Adiala Road, Ghazni Market Bagh Sardaran, Khyaban-e-Sir Syed, Ratta near New Slaughter House and Committee Chowk Sunday Bazaar.
Bosal appointed Rawal Town Officer (Regulation) Aftab Chohan as coordinator who would ensure that no trader should sell cattle while roaming in the city and nobody set up cattle market instead of the space allocated by the CDGR.
Sanitation: The DCO warned Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) staff of strict action in case of poor sanitation in the city during Eid days. He directed the SWMD staff to ensure speedy removal of offals and animal waste from streets and roadsides for disposal at Losar landfill site.
The meeting was informed that Rawal Town and Potohar Town Municipal administrations would earmark the collection spots for animal waste and offals and the sanitary workers would collect animal waste from these points.
Four sector: The district officer, Solid Waste Management, told the meeting that the city would be divided into four sectors for Eidul Azha. He said the transfer station would be established in the city from where the animal waste and offals would be transported to Losar Landfill site.
Bonus: He said for the transportation of animal waste from collection points to transfer station, the CDGR would hire 10 extra dumpers and one shovel. He said total 1,757 sanitation workers/inspectors, whose holidays had been cancelled on Eid days, would be provided with one-month extra pay and bonus.
He said 350 handcarts would be provided to sanitary workers to collect the animal waste in 46 union councils of the city. The DCO said on the provincial government’s directives the town administrations had exempted vendors coming to cattle markets from tax. He asked the sanitation workers to clean the cattle market on a daily basis until Eid days were over.
