Illumination, fireworks banned at weddings

* Rawalpindi DCO says government has set 11pm deadline for winding up marriage ceremonies
* One-dish law will be implemented strictly

By Aamir Yasin

RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Imdadullah Bosal on Thursday imposed ban on illumination, fireworks and aerial firing at the wedding parties.

The DCO has also banned late night wedding functions in the district for the security reasons and to save the electricity.

He said one-dish law for marriage parties would be implemented in its true spirit and directed the police to arrest the marriage hall administration and organisers who violate the law.

He made these directives during a meeting held at the Commissioner Office. Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Rao Muhammad Iqbal Khan, SSP Security Malik Matloob Ahmed, SP CIA Sultan Chadhar, Executive District Officer (EDO) Amjad Iqbal, EDO Revenue Zubair Khan, representatives of Marriage Halls Association and Catering Association and tehsil municipal officers (TMOs) of all towns of the district attended the meeting.

He said one-dish law would be implemented without any indiscrimination. He said teams headed by the Town Municipal Officer (TMO) of the area would be formed, which would pay surprise visit to the wedding parties and the violators including the hotel or marriage hall owners would be dealt with iron hands.

He said it was the duty of the hotel or marriage halls managements to inform the people who visit them for the booking of hall or hotel for wedding party that the function should be finished till 11pm.

Aerial firing and fireworks would not be allowed in the district and the hall administration and wedding party organizers violating the ban would be brought to court of justice, he said.

He said on the request of locals the provincial government had set the deadline of 11pm for winding up the wedding ceremonies in Rawalpindi district contrary to the deadline of 10pm in other districts of the province.

The CPO said that due to deteriorating law and order situation in the country, big gatherings were not allowed even for the wedding parties. He said this step was taken for the security of general public.
