PPP, PML-N have failed to fulfil people’s expectations
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have failed to fulfil people’s expectations, Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Thursday. Talking to a private TV channel, he said the politics of confrontation between country’s two mainstream political parties had added to the people’s miseries. He said the prevailing mistrust between the president and the prime minister could result into a constitutional crisis, which could create many problems for the government. He said the nation suffered as the result of such confrontation between politicians. Replying to a question, he said the military should not takeover in the present circumstances. online
Govt’s decision on NRO is democracy’s victory
ISLAMABAD: The federal government’s decision to withdraw the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) from parliament is democracy’s victory, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal said on Thursday. Talking to BBC radio, he said it was possible under a democratic set up alone that governments changed their decisions on public demand. To a question, he said the PML-N took a principled stand on the ordinance, adding the party did not want to destabilise the elected government. He hailed Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s statement in parliament to immediately repeal the 17th Amendment. He said the government should take concrete steps to address real issues facing the people. app
President, army chief on the same page
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Thursday denied claims of differences between President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of Army Staff Ashfaq Pervez Kayani. Speaking at a press conference, he said there were no differences between the two men, adding that such rumours were being spread by “some elements with ulterior political motives”. The minister also said there were no US marines or Blackwater personnel in the country. “I reassure the people that not a single American is allowed into Pakistan without a proper visa. There are only 411 American nationals in Pakistan,” he said. app
No PPP, MQM meeting in Dubai
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Information Secretary Fauzia Wahab on Thursday denied a media report that a meeting between the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and the PPP leadership was planned in Dubai in the near future. Talking to a private TV channel, Fauzia said the report was false and fabricated. She said the PPP and the MQM were coalition partners and they could hold meetings in Pakistan. “They don’t have to discuss domestic issues abroad,” she said. To a question, she said there was no misunderstanding between the PPP and the MQM and media reports in this connection were surprising and misleading. To another question, Fauzia said the PPP’s manifesto was to empower parliament. app
