Fahim assures PCGA of full cooperation
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim has taken a serious notice of a news items that 'Insurance Companies are denying Insurance cover to Ginning factories'. The Federal Minister assured Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) that their case would be taken at higher forums and their due interest would be protected. The Federal Minister has also directed Ministry of Commerce to take up the matter and brief the Minister regarding the matter. The Minister expressed a resolve that the insurance policy would be implemented in letter and spirit. staff report
Hosiery sector for ban on cotton, yarn export
LAHORE: The export of value added knitwear garments, readymade garments, sportswear and all other value added products are being affected. If export of raw materials like raw cotton is not stopped by the government immediately, the whole value added sector will be closed, a spokesman of Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association said Wednesday. Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association feels that Ministry of Textile Industry is aware of this alarming situation but time for corrective measures is running short. staff report

PGJDC takes part in Dubai Int’l Jewellery Week
KARACHI: Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) is participating in the annual Dubai International Jewellery Week (November 4-7, 2009) for the third time in a row. A spokesman of PGJDC said Wednesday, around 10 companies from the Gems and Jewellery industry of Pakistan have displayed their products brought from different regions of the country. These products are being displayed under the brand name Gems and Jewellery– Pakistan. These exhibiting companies belong to Karachi, Peshawar, Hyderabad and Gilgit-Baltistan. PGJDC is also facilitating a Pakistan delegation of 10 delegates from the industry. staff report
Telenor opts for solar power
KARACHI: Pakistan can now cost effectively extends its network to untapped rural areas of the country. The mobile operator has signed a contract with Nokia Siemens Networks to build off-grid sites using energy harvested from the sun. Telenor Pakistan was the first cellular operator in Pakistan to have a site dependent on solar technology in January 2008. Under the contract, Nokia Siemens Networks will provide its off-grid site solutions that use solar energy to power base station sites in rural and remote areas. staff report
