Section 144 goes in just hours

KARACHI: A notification ahead of Section 144 at II Chundrigar Road was withdrawn due to pressure from political parties. Due to security concerns, the Sindh Home Department on Monday had announced imposing Section 144 at II Chundrigar Road whereby vehicle parking, public gatherings and sale, purchase and renting of property had been forbidden in the area. Sources privy to the matter said that since the decision had also affected the protest demonstration of the labour union of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) against the administration of a local bank, influential PPP leaders had contacted concerned authorities and demanded immediate withdrawal of the notification. It was learnt that after a meeting held among PPP leaders and the labour union leader, the home minister directed to withdraw the ban. staff report
