Shanaakht Festival returns

KARACHI: The Shanaakht Festival 2009, which celebrates the lives of extraordinary individuals who struggled to create this nation, would be held from Nov 9 to 11 this year.

As per a release issued on Tuesday, the festival would feature never-before-seen photographs of dashing young men of Pakistan Air Force; rare photographs of pre-partitioned Kashmir; original film posters, snippets of films and songs from the Citizens Archive of Pakistan (CAP) and recollections of cinema-lovers, critics and those within the industry; film screenings of blockbusters, Koel, Sassi and Armaan; a slice of vintage Pakistan in an exhibition of some of the most beautiful vintage cars in the country; Sheema Kirmani's 'Rang Badal Lo Bhai'; readings of Pakistani literature in Urdu and English by Fahmida Riaz, Haseena Moin, Ilona Yusuf , Mohammad Hanif and Musharraf Ali Farooqi; and an evening of musical fusion with popular Pakistani bands joined by traditional folk singers. The event would be open to schools between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm, while the general public would be able to attend it between 3:00 pm and 9:00 pm.

CAP: The Citizens Archive of Pakistan is a not-for-profit educational institution and heritage centre that was established in February 2007 with the aim of strengthening the civil society and giving full rein to the creativity of Pakistanis, allowing them to explore their heritage and history. Their largest projects to date include the Oral History Project and the Government School Outreach Tours, which are part of a wider attempt to showcase Pakistan’s history and celebrate our nation’s achievements. staff report
