Pakistani wins world art contest

LAHORE: A Pakistani artist, Sumaira Amin, has won the third ‘World Miniature Painting Competition 2009’ held in Algeria, a private TV channel reported on Monday.

According to the channel, the government of Algeria organised and sponsored the competition held in its capital city, Algiers. It said over 200 artists from more than 50 countries had participated in the contest.

The judges of the competition lauded Amin’s miniature works and awarded her the first position. The Algerian art and culture minister gave her the winning certificate and a prize of $6,000 for clinching the first position in the competition. daily times monitor
