One killed, two injured over clan enmity
KARACHI: A man belonging to the Magsi clan was killed and two seriously injured early Friday morning when some men, believed to be members of the Lashari clan, entered their residence in Khairabad Colony, in the remit of Manghopir police station, and sprayed them with bullets using automatic assault rifles.
The three victims were identified as Usman, Pervez and Mohammad Yousuf alias Shaukat, all of them labourers by profession.
Usman, died on the spot while the neighbours took Pervez and Mohammad Yousuf to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where both of them were in a serious condition.
Police officials said the incident was linked to the tribal enmity between Magsis and Lasharis of Jacobabad and the attackers probably belonged to the Lashari clan. The motive behind the crime could be to avenge killings of their clansmen by the Magsi clan.
They said initial investigation has revealed that the attackers hot the three men from a close range while they were sleeping.
The police have registered an FIR on the complaint of Shahzad, the brother of the deceased Usman, against Ramzan Lashari, Liaquat Lashari, Shehwani Khan, Hameed and Nazir.Meanwhile, a police constable who was deputed at the residence of Sindh Health Minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed was killed under mysterious circumstances on Friday.
Police officials said that PC Qaiser Aijaz, 30 son of Shafi, was on duty at the residence of Dr Ahmed in Empire Centre Apartments near Jauhar More when a bullet fired from his own SMG killed him.
Police officials further said that the constable was sitting outside the minister’s residence when he was killed. It was his own rifle from which the bullet was fired and it pierced his chest. Possibilities are that either the gun went off accidentally or he committed suicide, they added.
At the time of the incident, Dr Ahmed was not at home. However, the deceased was said to be a resident of Naval Colony, Dalmia and deputed at Security Zone Headquarter, Hassan Square.
His body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities.
Similarly, a 25-year-old person, identified as Mohammad Aqil was killed when his car overturned and fell into a drain near Star Gate in the limits of Airport police station. The victim was a resident of Gulshan-e-Jamal and a university student.
In another incident, an informer of the Excise and Taxation Department (ETD) was killed in a shootout with the criminals near Bakra Peri on Friday.
A police team of ETD officials, led by Mushtaq Khokhar, raided the hideout of a notorious criminal and Lyari gangster, Aftab, alias Mullah Tabu Baloch.
Shahid Khalid, a retired constable of the ETD, who worked as an informer for the Excise police, was shot and killed in the encounter.
Separately, a 10-year old boy Saqib, son of Sardar Khan fell into the Lyari River near Agra Taj Colony in the limits of Kalri police station and drowned. Rescuers found his body after two-hour-long efforts. staff report
