Raids on madrassas criticised

KARACHI: Jamia Binoria head Mufti Naeem has criticised the security agencies for conducting raids on madrassas in the city. Addressing a press conference, Mufti Naeem said that the government had taken the action without any reason and evidence. He also said that crackdown against seminaries in the city was a part of a conspiracy against the religious institutions, adding that the authorities were harassing the students. He further said that only NADRA cardholders were admitted to seminaries, adding that the present government was pursuing the policies of the Musharraf regime. He demanded comparison of criminal records of seminary students with the students of colleges and universities. He added that madrassas act as NGOs and provide free education, food and shelter and that they did not involve themselves in any activities besides their curriculum. staff report
