Mentally challenged man commits suicide
KARACHI: A mentally challenged young man committed suicide by burning himself at a playground outside his house on Monday.
As per details, 28-year-old Shahzad Khan, son of Azam Khan was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) with critical burn injuries from where he was shifted to the Burns Ward of the Civil Hospital Karachi. However, he succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment.
Police officials said the deceased was a resident of House No L-226, Sector 5C-4, located within the jurisdiction of Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police station. The police said the deceased’s father runs a toyshop in Liaquatabad area and according to him, his son was mentally challenged since three years and unmarried.
The deceased’s father in his recorded statement told the police that after a medical checkup at a hospital, his son went to a playground near their house where he sprinkled petrol and set himself on fire. Police officials said since it was an incident of suicide, no case was registered.
Separately, a five-year-old girl identified as Shabana, daughter of Abdullah, died after she accidentally fell from the balcony of her apartment near Al-Asif Square, within the limits of Sohrab Goth police station. The girl’s body was taken to the ASH from where her family took it away without legal formalities.
Similarly, two people were crushed to death in separate road mishaps. In the first accident, a 35-year-old man was killed by a hit-and-run vehicle at University Road in the remit of Mobina Town police station while in another accident, an elderly man identified as Adam Khan, son of Yousuf, was crushed to death by a passenger bus in the jurisdiction of Eidgah police station. staff report
