Sharif sympathises with Awan’s family

By Aamir Yasin

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Nawaz Sharif on Monday visited the residence of Muslim Student Federation (MSF) Punjab President Babar Awan to sympathise with his family over his death.

Awan died on Saturday from Hepatitis B. Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, PML-N MNAs Malik Abrar Ahmed, Hanif Abbasi, former MNA Haji Pervaiz Khan, MPAs Raja Muhammad Hanif, Malik Yasir Raza, Ziaullah Shah, Sheryar Riaz, Malik Iftikhar Ahmed and office bearers accompanied Sharif on this occasion.

Sharif stayed with the bereaved family for a few minutes and prayed for the departed soul. He appreciated Awan’s services for the party saying he was a precious asset of PML-N and his sacrifices would be never be forgotten.

PML-N workers gathered at Awan’s residence. Some of them tried to shout slogans but Sharif silenced them saying, “This is not a moment for sloganeering.”

Special arrangements were made for Sharif’s security. Police commandoes and law enforcers were deputed on rooftops and along roads. On arrival of Sharif, the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Road was blocked for every kind of traffic and all link roads were also closed.

However, the city witnessed worst traffic jams on adjoining roads of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Road and Rawal Road. It was a long haul to reach commuters’ destinations.

Later, Sharif also visited Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) to inquire after victims of two suicide blasts that jolted International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI).
