Charge sheet against police sought

RAWALPINDI: Civil Judge Zagham Abbas on Monday sought charge sheet against the police officials allegedly involved in lawyers attack case on November 14.

Former city police officer (CPO) Inayatullah Farooq, SP (Sardar) Maqsood and all other police officials allegedly involved in the case were present in the court. Upon this, the court directed the police to furnish charge sheet against them on November 14.

According to the petition filed by Rawalpindi District Bar Association (RDBA) president Toufeeq Asif on March 15, over 1,000 police officials, headed by SP Maqsood, DSP Raja Taifoor, SHO Karim Khan Niazi and SHO Azhar Shah conducted an illegal raid on bar office and tortured lawyers when they were preparing to participate in the ‘long march’.

Marriott attack case: Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 (ATC-1) on Monday reserved it judgment on bail applications of the accused involved in Marriott attack case and put off hearing till November 6.

Judge Malik Muhammad Akram Awan was trying Dr Usman, a resident of Islamabad; Rana Ilyas, a resident of Faisalabad; Muhammad Hameed Afzal, a resident of Toba Tek Singh and Tehseenullah Jan, a resident of Hayyatabad, Peshawar, to ascertain their alleged involvement in Marriott attack case.

The accused moved an application before the court for bail. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved judgment on it.

A suicide bomber blew up an explosives-laden dumper at the entrance to Marriott Hotel on Sept 20, 2008, killing 54 people, including foreigners, and injuring around 266.
