Success in SWA critical to war on terror: Kayani

* Chief of army staff visits South Waziristan, meets field commanders

LAHORE: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Ashfaq Kayani visited South Waziristan on Sunday to meet troops engaged in a military offensive against the Taliban, and said success in South Waziristan is critical to the war on terror, reported a private TV channel.

Kayani said the operation would be “completed on time”. Earlier, he inspected areas where operations have been launched, and praised troops for their high morale.

Tribal veterans also called on the army chief during his visit, and assured him of their complete cooperation in the military operation against the Taliban.

Kayani said the army was not “conducting operations against any tribe or area ... we are targeting a handful of Taliban who have disrupted peace and held the majority hostage to their anti-state agenda”.

He reiterated that the offensive was being conducted without any external support. daily times monitor/staff report
