Nawaz asks Zardari to ‘fight his cases in courts’
Daily Times Monitor
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif has said President Asif Ali Zardari should “fight his cases in the courts” instead of getting the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) passed by parliament.
Talking to a private TV channel, Nawaz said the nation would not accept the NRO or its adoption by parliament.
Nawaz said he would discuss the matter with President Zardari and would tell him that the NRO should not be passed through parliament.
Nawaz told the channel he would also discuss the Charter of Democracy (CoD), good governance and the abolition of the 17th Amendment of the constitution with the president.
The former prime minister said the current situation could be avoided if the government adopted the CoD in its true spirit. The former prime minister said he wanted good relations with the US but sovereignty of the country was his party’s first priority.
