Sindh cabinet discusses law and order situation
Staff Report
KARACHI: The Sindh law enforcement agencies (LEAs) have obliterated 25 terrorist groups, 16 of which had connections with the Al Qaeda and killed six terrorists in police operations. This was disclosed at a media briefing, which was presided over by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, held immediately after the cabinet’s meeting on Saturday.
Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri, who conducted the briefing, said that the LEAs in the province have taken 56 terrorists into custody this year.
Marri said that Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and Sindh Inspector General of Police Babar Khattak briefed the cabinet, which discussed in detail the law and order situation in the province and also the sports complex on MA Jinnah Road.
Marri also said that the cabinet appreciated the measures taken by the police and paramilitary forces to maintain peace in the province, hoping that the police would remain alert and keep vigilant eyes on anti state elements.
Mirza identified some sensitive areas where there was a need to enhance security measures and assured that measures to do so would be taken.
Mirza informed the cabinet that the police were on high alert around educational institutions.
Marri added that educational institutions in the province, which were temporarily closed as a precautionary measure, would be reopened on Monday.
Sports complex: The cabinet also discussed the shabby construction of the sports complex on MA Jinnah Road. A company from Qatar was already hired to build the complex, which is a mega project. Forty percent of the complex has been reserved for commercial purposes, while the rest would be used for sports activities.
A four-member committee, comprising Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq, Law Minister Ayaz Soomro, Revenue Minister Jam Mehtab Dahar and Syed Sardar Ahmed, has been formed to look into the various aspects of the project and it has been advised to submit a report within 10 days.
